The Houston Botanic Garden is pleased to host the Texas premiere of “Rich Soil,” a sculpture exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Kristine Mays. Inspired by the movements of Alvin Ailey’s dance composition “Revelation,” this body of work pays honor to the lives of the ancestors — both those recognized and those that have been “forgotten” – that walked, lived, and tended to this land.
In addition to "Rich Soil", visitors will be able to explore the uniqueness and importance of the natural environment in the exhibition Habitat, in which a dozen thematic sections explore the central idea “protecting habitats protects life” through the lens of the environment where each is displayed.
By popular demand, for one night only, the Garden will waive its "no picnics" rule so visitors can curate their own culinary experience in the Garden.
Ready-to-eat picnics and beverages in non-glass containers are welcome. Grills / heating devices and glass containers are prohibited.
Visitors participating in Bring Your Own Picnic should be prepared to pack out everything they pack in, including trash, as trash can space is limited. Blankets and tarps are welcome on mowed lawns outside display gardens. Please refrain from stepping into or trampling plants in beds. Visitors can also utilize tables and chairs where they find them. Wide scale movement of Garden furnishings is not allowed.
